Black Alumni Network x Black Lives Matter

On behalf of the Black Alumni Network at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, we denounce police brutality, racial profiling, and any form of discrimination, prejudice, or excessive force against Black Lives.  The recent murders of Breonna Taylor (Louisville, KY), George Floyd (Minneapolis, MN), and Ahmed Arbery (Brunswick, GA) along with the Central Park incident of Christian Cooper (New York, NY) and Top Figure Advertising and Branding Agency (Black, male small business owners) in Minneapolis demonstrate how Black lives are viewed and lost to police brutality, White supremacy, privilege, and greed. We should not live in a world where you are seen as less than or at risk because of the color of your skin. We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and will always strive to ensure we have a just world.

BAN has and will consistently engage the University and Campus Leadership around the issues of racial equality, racial profiling, and human dignity for our Black and Brown students on campus. BAN supports a robust academic environment where all Black students can succeed on a safe and productive campus.

Please let us know of your concerns and how we may assist in making our Alma Mater a safe, accessible, and equitable campus for all.  You may reach the President of BAN at illinoisban@gmail.com
